I posted to Kathy Way earlier that "Grimwood's Island" is now called
Morane, which is located a bit further south of both Mururoa and
Fangatoufa.
What I failed to mention in my posting was that this information is from
the "Pacific Island Names" atlas, published by Bishop Museum Press, 1986,
and compiled by the late Edwin H. Bryan, long-time head of the museum's
Pacific Islands Information Center, and authored by Lee Mottler.
When compiling the atlas and researching older geographical names in order
to find their current day equivalents, masses of articles, news clippings,
sea logs, and filing cabinets of papers and notes were consulted
(including the two articles cited).
One may make their own decision on which location is correct, but I would
lean more toward what is in the 1986 pub. given the compiler's and
author's resources.
