Dear Netters,
I am now of the final trawl for species which are not presently on
the 1994 Red List but which should be considered due to a threat to
their habitat. Remember this is a list that attempts to review the
status of species, and does not mean that legislation will
automatically regulate for their protection.
You may not be aware, but the new list will use a different set of
criteria to past lists, and these will more accurately reflect the
nature of the threat to the animals. We currently are reviewing the
c. 1400 species on the list, but we still have large gaps of data.
If you know of some-one in your region who has data pretaining to
the status of Molluscs please draw their attention to this message.
At present there a lack of data relating to countries/regions, for example,
India, Pakistan, China, Peru, Chile, Argentina, most of west Africa,
and the Caribbean, to name a few prominent areas where there have
been people working on the taxonomic status of species.
If there are candidates from these regions please e-mail me the data
given below:
Many thanks for your assistance
