It seems to me that the underlying thread in this discussion
of locality georeferencing is the sometimes maddening habit
typical of government regulation. Pigeonhole everythng!
Code everything!
I would think that since there are different reasons for
accessing locality data, those of us associated with museums
perhaps should just provide the information on the original
specimens and let the pinpointers do their own interpreting.
To have little codes saying a specimen locality data is
accurate only to the nearest 10 mi or nearest 100 mi or nearest
whatever seems a little ridiculous to me given the wide range of
habitats etc. available in some 100 sq.mi. units.
(Further while I can forgive the "old" collectors for not
providing enough information, keeping the above discussions in
mind, I cannot forgive current collectors who do not provide
enough information to help relocate a population.)
