Chair - Department of Biology
Applications and nominations are invited for the position of
Chair of the Biology Department at George Mason University to
commence in Fall 97. The department is seeking a dynamic leader
with proven administrative abilities, a distinguished record of
research productivity and extramural support, demonstrated
excellence in teaching, and a commitment to undergraduate and
graduate education. Candidates in all areas of biology are
encouraged to apply. The chair will lead a department of 30
full-time faculty with a broad range of research interests. The
department offers undergraduate degrees in biology and medical
technology (over 800 students), a MS degree in biology and a PhD
degree in environmental science and public policy (over 200
students). The chair will also help shape the department's
interaction with the American Type Culture Collection and the
recently established Molecular Bioscience and Technology
Institute at GMU's campus in Manassas, VA.
George Mason is the state university for northern Virginia and is
located in the metropolitan Washington, DC area. Approximately
24,000 students are enrolled. Candidates should send a letter of
