improper Latin

Dear Tom,
   I think your decision concerning acceptance of the Hawaiian
lobelioid names was not merely preferable but mandatory. You did
the right thing. The reason the ICBN is as complex as it is is
because of the necessity of deciding how to handle people doing
things badly. If everyone did things perfectly, life would be
wonderful, but people do make mistakes. The ICBN says in black
and white that any Latin description is enough to satisfy the
requirements, even if it says merely "Folia viridis" (or should
it be "Folia virides?").
