what do we call it until it gets a name?

Thanks to the many people who replied to this question. The response was
virtually unanimous that we should stick to a code letter until a name has
been validly published. (Incidentally, some of the respondents seemed to
assume that I would be describing the insect myself. I hasten to assure them
that it will be described by someone competent to do the job!)
