         A REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS FOR PROJECTS DESIGNED
              EITHER 1) TO DEVELOP OR TEST SURVEY
            METHODOLOGIES APPLICABLE TO REPTILES AND
        AMPHIBIANS OR 2) TO ASSESS THE STATUS AND TRENDS
         OF REPTILES AND AMPHIBIANS OF THE GREAT PLAINS

The Northern Prairie Science Center calls for proposals to conduct work
that develops and/or tests methodologies suitable to monitor populations
of reptiles and amphibians, or that relates to the status of amphibians
and reptiles in the Great Plains.  Projects will be of 1- or 2-year
duration and typically cost $4000 or less.  Exceptional proposals costing
more than this amount will be considered.  Proposals will be evaluated
according to their potential to develop and test methodologies to monitor
populations and species distributions or to provide information on
population trends, current distribution (especially of poorly known
species), and trends in distribution in Great Plains species.

                      Application Procedures

On a cover sheet, include your name, address, telephone number and e-mail
address (if available).  Indicate the name(s) and range(s) of the
species you plan to study, and the total amount requested (itemized,
justified budget to be appended to the proposal, see below).

The proposal must not exceed five double-spaced pages (excluding
literature cited, detailed budget, and curriculum vita).  Include an
introduction describing relevant existing information, a concise
statement of your objectives, and a complete methodology including a
timetable.  Describe how your objectives relate to how you propose to
test methodologies that are applicable to monitoring the status and trends
of amphibian and reptile populations, or to the determination of the
status and population trends of amphibian and reptile populations within
the Great Plains.  A curriculum vita of the applicant(s) should be added
as an appendix.  Prepare an itemized, fully justified budget for each
year of the study.
