Dear Taxacomers,
I am undertaking a revision of the Pterostichine genera Abaris, Abaridius
and Pseudabarys. I am presently amassing specimens from museums. I have
had no successes in acquiring specimens from Central and South American
sources, and modest success from institutions in North America. If you can
give me information on possible sources, have these genera in your
collections or any suggestions at all please contact me at kww4 at cornell edu.
The following is provided to assist in recognizing the target genera:
The genera ABARIS, ABARIDIUS, AND PSEUDABARYS (COLEOPTERA: CARABIDAE:
PTEROSTICHINI). May be listed under Poecilus or Pterostichus in older
determinations.
Size- 4-8mm
color- overall color goldish-bronze, coppery or greenish metallic
Diagnostic characters- Separated from other Pterostichini by large
hemispherical eyes, pectinate claws in Abaris and Abaridius, transverse
sulcus on abdominal sternites in Abaris and Psuedabarys.
Thank you
Kip Will....
