Gender of Anigozanthos

In classic Greek (acc. to Liddell & Scott or Stamatakou), the gender of
anthos is neuter (and the genitive anthe-os, as G. Rosenberg cites, or even
anth-ous), but in modern Greek it can also be treated as masculine
(genitive anth-ou). The latter is how NCU-3 accepts this name (acc. to P.
Trehane).

Thus, it seems that anthos represents a case where NCU-3 has accepted
modern (against classic) usage of a name.

A further detail is that anthos (with masculine gender) was also used to
describe...a little bird (Liddell & Scott, Stamatakou).

But what is the etymology of Anigoz (Anigo-z?)
