The Missouri Botanical Garden seeks an individual to join our
Research Division to prepare plant descriptions, keys and other
materials for a revision of Bignoniaceae, tribe Bignoneae.
The Bignoniaceae are well known in tropical regions for its showy
ornamentals, useful timbers and medicinal plants. This Neotropical
group includes approximately 50 genre and 465 species. This project
is an extension of the materials left by the late Dr. Alwyn Gentry, who
was a specialist in the family. The project is under the supervision
of Dr. William G. D'Arcy.
We offer the selected candidate an opportunity to develop a working
knowledge in plant systemantics, formal plant taxonomy, keywriting,
taxonomic decision making, description writing, and nomenclature, as
well as a sound knowledge of the Bignoniaceae.
The ideal candidate will have field biology experience, tropical
preferred; a Ph.D. in a related area or academic training and
experience equivalent to a Ph. D., including course work in botany,
plant taxonomy, and floristics; publications of a descriptive nature
relating to plants or animals; and a desire to prepare professional
taxonomic and floristic treatments.
