Databases - unique or doubled

Dear friends,

I have seen recently few messages about database being  compiled, supported and
unsupported. I am wonder if these databases has some type of coordination to
avoid being accidentaly doubled. Is there some guidance
agreements/recommandations  to have similar system/structure, to help to be used
by more organisations/researchers.
