*Important* info regarding Magazine Ad; where to complain

The Berkeley listserv software does a pretty good job at catching spams
to Taxacom. I have deleted many that it intercepted which the list has
not seen, In the end though, there is no way to automatically intercept
spam messages when the sender has taken pains to outsmart the listserv
filter by avoiding the conditions which activates the spam interceptor.

A possible solution is to allow posting to the list only by subscribers,
but that has some negative impact beyond eliminating potentially useful
mail from those not on the list.  Several sites have Taxacom
subscriptions which are re-mailed through gateways wherein individuals'
addresses are not on the mailing list.  Those subscribers also lose the
capability to post to the list.

Another solution to the spam problem is to moderate the list and check
each message manually before letting it propagate.

We had a moderation discussion earlier this year, and I don't think it
would be useful to have another one now.  As long as the problem is small
and not exacerbated by replies to it to the list, my inclination is to
keep the list open an unmoderated.  That may change if things get out of
hand.  Please feel free to e-mail me directly if you would like to
