             NOTICE OF SUPPORT FOR GRADUATE RESEARCH

National Science Foundation support is available for a Ph.D.
graduate student to conduct research on the systematics of
Aplacophora (Mollusca).  The recipient will be expected to achieve
a knowledge of deep-sea benthic ecology and to become competent in
taxonomy, evolutionary theory, and phylogeny.

Topics for a thesis are open but must include monographic treatment
of aplacophoran taxa.  Available study material includes a global
collection of 20,000 specimens from 60 surveys and expeditions.

Tuition can be applied to any graduate program of an accredited
university in the United States, including the Woods Hole
Oceanographic Institution/Massachusetts Institute of Technology
graduate program.
