POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH
CALIFORNIA ACADEMY OF SCIENCES
The California Academy of Sciences invites applications for the
position of Director of Research. The Academy, a natural history
museum founded in 1853 and located in San Francisco, has strong
emphases in systematics, evolutionary biology, and natural history
in both its research and educational programs. The Director of
Research serves as administrator and external liaison for the 100
members of the scientific and research staff. We seek a colleague
with a Ph.D. and demonstrated scientific accomplishments in one or
more areas of the Academy's research emphases. Strong interpersonal
skills and demonstrated managerial abilities are needed to
coordinate and foster current and future research programs. Strong
interdepartmental cooperation with the Academy's public education
programs is a major goal. Collaborative skills that will maximize
interaction between the Academy and scientific programs in San
Francisco Bay Area museums, colleges, and universities are expected.
Starting salary will be commensurate with experience. Applicants
should forward a vitae, statement of interest in development of
research programs in systematics, and the names of three references
