The Museum of Vertebrate Zoology of the University of California
has made available a near final draft of its full information
model for biological collections. The model is the result of a
comprehensive, six-month modeling effort for its vertebrate collections of
birds, herps and mammals as part of an information system re-
engineering project. In addition to the core vertebrate collections,
numerous ancillary collections are also being analyzed for their
information content and being included in the model.

The MVZ model significantly extends the Association of Systematics
Collections Information Model in several areas. Notably it integrates
collections information of three vertebrate collections, and at several
levels of intellectual organization above and below that of the specimen.

A summary presentation of the model will be given on Friday June 30, 1995
at 3:00 pm in the library of the MVZ as part of the Association of
Systematics Collections (US) annual meeting being held in Berkeley. Posters
and copies of the model will be available at the presentation.

We would be delighted to receive comment or critisms of it.
