Then there is the split between those who call themselves "botanists"
and those others who call themselves "plant scientists." Now I always
make the point that floristics and systematics are genuine experiments
involving sampling, null hypotheses (e.g. that plants do not have
discernable geographic ranges), and the like...it's just that the
experiment has been ongoing for decades or centuries. A paper that
reports a range extention is a part of that great study, though it
seems to here-and-now experimentalists to lack hypothesis, materials
& method, and conclusion. On the other hand, nobody seems to listen
to my cogent explanations.
