FERDINAND MUELLER FELLOWSHIP

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne invites applications
for this research fellowship honouring Australias
greatest nineteenth century botanist, Baron Ferdinand von
Mueller. Funds are available to cover one return economy
airfare, living expenses for a period of up to 4 months
at AUD$125 a day in Melbourne, and a small operating
budget.

The Fellowship is available for any research or other
work which has an outcome which will be of value to the
Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne: e.g. collaborations
with RBGM staff, research programs dealing with taxa or
methodologies not currently available at RBGM, adding
value to the State Botanical Collection. Applications
will be assessed on the merit of the proposal and the
demonstrated achievements of the applicant. The first
Fellowship is available between March and December 1996.

Current research programs at the Royal Botanic Gardens
include: systematics of vascular plants (Asteraceae,
Fabaceae, Proteaceae, Rhamnaceae and Rutaceae);
systematics and ecology of macrofungi and freshwater
algae; selection and propagation of ornamental plants;
floristics of cultivated plants; conservation genetics;
nineteenth-century science in Australia. Applications
need not be limited to these research programs.
