A semantic quibble with George Garrity's last posting.  Our recognition
of a taxon is a hypothesis based on a more generally applicable theory
that provides a framework in which our concept of taxon resides.  As
such, the hypothesis is testable by a variety of procedures, but these
tests must be consistent with the theory.
