I haven't yet read Kim et al., but I wonder if there was a pattern of
where, in the tree, nodes tended to be stable? Off the top of my head, I
would predict that there would be greater stability at the extremes of
the tree: perhaps one or a few well defined basal nodes and perhaps a
relatively large proportion of well defined nodes near the tips of the
branches, with a lot of noise in between. Any thoughts on this?
