A question along these lines as well:
A photograph of a holotype specimen in a joint paper on which I was junior
author some years ago was designated as an 'iconotype' by the senior
(European) author. I had not seen this designator previously, however it
was accepted by referees...is it a valid term, implying that photographs
are acceptable, or did the referees not know either!?
