Herbarium design

I am seeking information and advice on the design of a new herbarium.  I would
appreciate input from anyone who has had recent experience with
designing/building/using a new herbarium, or from others with insight into
problems with existing structures that could have been avoided by improved
design.  Is there a published set of criteria for herbarium design?  I suspect
that most architects will have no experience in such matters.  I have given
this matter considerable thought, but there is no substitute for the large
collective experience of this group.
