A small tidbit to the discussion on how to handle type specimens:
The Royal British Columbia Museum, Victoria, B.C., Canada
is using the type specimen of Dawson's caribou (Rangifer dawsoni)
harnessed in Santa Claus's sleigh ride display as one
of the reindeer.
Dawson's caribou is an extinct endemic species from the Queen
Charlotte Islands and the type specimen was collected in 1882.
