changing honorific epithets

        Dear Doug Yanega:  I have a similar case as explained by Amelie
Scheltema.  The original name of the dobsonfly (Insecta: Megaloptera)
_Corydalus batesii_ MacLachlan (named after the collector, Bates) was
changed later to _C. batesi_ by several workers.  Article 31 (page 61) of
the ICZN gives several examples in which a name (e.g. Cuvier) is
latinized first (Cuvierius) and then gives the ii ending (_cuvierii_) when
the species name is formed according to the rules of Latin.  If the
species name is formed from the modern name (e.g. Cuvier) the ending is i
(e.g. _cuvieri_).  I am cosidering _C. batesii_, the original name, as the
correct spelling for the species.  Sincerely,
