Definition of original material

The footnote associated with Art. 9.7 which defines "orginal material" is
clear: "`original material' comprises (a) those specimens and illustrations
(both unpublished and published either prior to or together with the
protologue) upon which it can be shown that the description or diagnosis
validating the name was based..."

As the Field Museum photographs taken in the 1930s were made after the
protologue was published, the photographs themselves can not be considered
original material. This is critical for while one can select a photograph as a
neotype, it clearly allows one to select a specimen that would, in my view,
serve the future needs of monographers far better than a photograph.
