Type Collections

At WAG type collections are not kept separate. We do not have the space and
researchers find it easier to have all the material in one place. Our Types
and Standard Specimens of cultivated plants are easily recognised by their
coloured folders.

Students and visitors are allowed to take specimens from the compacters, but
not from the collection room. Only the herbarium staff is permitted to put
the specimens back where they belong. It also gives us the opportunity to
check name changes.

What will bring a considerable amount of work is that we are going to list
our types in some sort electronic publication together with Leiden (L) and
Utrecht (U). It will then be easy to see what types we have.
