POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP AVAILABLE
A two-year postdoctoral position is available in David Maddison's lab in
sunny Arizona.
The successful applicant will participate in a project on evolution of the
major lineages of adephagan beetles and the tribes of Carabidae, gathering
data from molecular sequences. This group of beetles arose in the Triassic
and diversified into existing tribes throughout the Mesozoic. It includes
ground beetles, tiger beetles, bombardier beetles, whirligigs, predacious
diving beetles, wrinkled bark beetles, and so on. The relationships within
this group and patterns of character evolution have been very
controversial. The project seeks to infer the phylogeny of adephagans
using molecular sequence data. It is part of a larger collaborative effort
to examine morphological and molecular evolution of these beetles.
Preference given to those with expertise in basic laboratory techniques in
molecular systematics (DNA extraction, PCR, sequencing). Applicants must
have a Ph.D. degree in a biological science.
Review of applications begins on 31 August 1995 and continues until
position is filled.
Target start date of fellowship: 1 January 1996 (or earlier).
To apply, please send an introductory cover letter with a statement of
research interests, curriculum vitae, and names of three references to:
