              Research Lichenologist (SSO)

A post of research lichenologist within the Division of Cryptogamic
Plants, Department of Botany will be advertised shortly. The department
has a long term commitment to research on lichens; the post will be
advertised as a three year position in the first instance. A search
committee has been formed and we are inviting interested candidates to
send a current CV to the address below.

The Natural History Museum houses the world's finest lichen herbarium
and has a long tradition of leadership in lichen systematics. Together with
the diatom collection and Sloane Herbarium the lichen herbarium is one
of our most significant botanical collections.

We hope to appoint a dynamic scientist who is currently active in
systematic research and has the ability to develop a major research
programme. Ideally we would look for an interest in tropical lichenology
as in this area there a lack of basic systematic knowledge even at the
generic level. The museum holds excellent collections of tropical lichens
that would benefit from an active research programme in this area. We
wish to appoint someone capable of attracting external funding and
building an externally funded team around them.
