One caution regarding Monique's suggestion: in my experience, this often
leads to many uninformed individuals collecting interesting things and
illegally transporting them across political boundaries.  Students and
colleagues have returned from trips to Africa, Australia, Central and
South America with plant materials stashed in their suitcases (and I don't
mean things like marijuana and cocaine; at least they didn't ask me to
identify it if they had it).  In most cases they are unaware of
restrictions and don't believe it necessary to declare these things at
customs.  I usually destroy the specimens (but, I once ate some African
bananas that a student brought back).
