Have found a couple of refences, and am sending this directly to hsiao as
well as to the list so others don't duplicate these.
"camalote saladillo" from the Grasses of Baja California by Frank Gould
and Reid Moran, 1981 (published by our museum: memoir 12) (P. pubiflorum
is cited as "camalote velludo").
The venerable Maximo Martinez Catalogo de nombres vulgares y cientificos
de plantas mexicanas (1937) gives "grama" for Baja California and
"grami'n" for the rest of Mexico. (that's an accent on the i) These names
are shared with several other grasses.
Hope this helps.
