PROJECT:       THE CONSERVATION AND SUSTAINABLE USE OF THE PLANT
               GENETIC RESOURCES OF CENTRAL AMERICA

El CENTRO MUNDIAL DE MONITOREO DE LA CONSERVACION (WCMC) es una
entidad benefica e independiente establecida por tres agencias
internacionales de conservacion: UICN, la Union Mundial para la
Conservacion; WWF el Fondo Mundial para la Naturaleza; PNUMA el
Programa de las Naciones Unidas para el Medio Ambiente.

              THE WORLD CONSERVATION MONITORING CENTRE (WCMC) is an
              independent charity established by three international
              conservation agencies: IUCN the World Conservation Union;
              WWF World Wide Fund for Nature; UNEP United Nations
              Environment Programme

WCMC esta llevando a cabo un estudio, en colaboracion con REMERFI
- Red Mesoamericana de Recursos Fitogeneticos y el Instituto
Smithsonian sobre la conservacion de recursos fitogeneticos
utiles de Mexico y Centro America (ver resumen al final del
documento)

              WCMC is undertaking a study, in collaboration with REMERFI
              - Mesoamerican Plant Genetic Resources Network and the
              Smithsonian Institution, of in situ conservation of plant
              genetic resources of Mexico and Central America (see
              summary at end).

El objectivo es el de coordinar informacion y experiencia
existente dentro y fueva de la region, enlazando al sector de
recursos geneticos de plantas con otras agencias relacionadas con
la conservacion de la biodiversidad. Como parte de este estudio
estamos evaluando los niveles actuales de informacion sobre la
Conservacion in situ de especies de plantas utiles,
particularmente de aquellas identificadas como prioritarias por
REMERFI que esten dentro de areas protegidas.

              The aim is to coordinate information and expertise from
              inside and outside the region, linking the plant genetic
              resource sector with other agencies of biodiversity
              conservation. As part of this study we are assessing the
              current level of information on in situ conservation of
              useful plant species, particularly those identified as
              being of priority by REMERFI within protected areas.
