International Institute of Entomology, London (working in the Natural

TWO INSECT/MITE SYSTEMATIST POSITIONS

The International Institute of Entomology (IIE) is an international centre
dedicated to providing scientific services and information on a worldwide
scale.  IIE's particular focus is the taxonomy of insects and mites of
importance to agriculture, forestry, horticulture and the environment.  It
facilitates, applies and provides identification services; conducts
supporting research; and provides training for resource enhancement in
developing nations.  Particular priority is given to supporting integrated
pest management, crop protection and plant quarantine.  IIE functions in
close collaboration with the Department of Entomology, Natural History
Museum, London (NHM), where the majority of its personnel are based.

The Institute wishes to appoint two highly motivated systematists to join
its team in the NHM.  They will be expected to conduct independent and
original research on arthropods within the remit described above, provide
identifications within their field of expertise, participate in training
activities, contribute to the intellectual core within IIE and NHM, and
attract project funding.

Applicants should have a PhD from a recognized university or evidence of
equivalent research achievements and experience.  Their publications should
show competence in classical taxonomy and a sound knowledge and/or
experience of modern techniques.  Post-doctoral or equivalent experience,
ability to interact successfully with others in research teams and
collaborative projects, and evidence of success in attracting sponsorship
and external funding would be advantageous.

In return a salary of between #15,900 and #20,000 per annum is offered,
according to qualifications and experience, and a generous pension scheme.
The posts will initially be for a period of up to three years, with good
prospects of longer term appointments thereafter.

Because of CAB INTERNATIONAL's status, immigration/work permit restrictions
do not apply.
