Request for info about software

I wonder if anybody on the Taxacom listerver can help me? I am a
microbiology student working here on information systems and I am keen
to get hold of software for bacterial identification. We currently
identify bacteria by traditional methods of simple morphological and
biochemical tests (eg. assimilation/fermentation of sugars) and would
like software which performs identifications with these data. I have
already looked at systems such as GDE and Montanus which are more
concerned with constructing taxonomic keys than performing straight
identifications with ready-made keys which is what I really want. Does
anybody know of any software (especially public domain) that can perform
identifications with these data? I have seen advertisements for software
from Biolog but this is an integrated system using kits and is very
expensive for us. I have also heard that PC Taxon might be an option but
I have had no luck in locating this on Internet so far....

Any suggestions?

Thank you for your attention
