The University of Notre Dame invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in American Studies with a research area in sport, media, and culture, to begin fall 2026. The Department of American Studies has a strong undergraduate program devoted to “exploring  the American experience in all its diversity,” and is home to the interdisciplinary minor in Sport, Media, and Culture (SMAC), which examines the representation and cultural politics of sport with an eye towards social justice. We seek candidates whose research shows scholarly promise and engages these themes from the perspective of American Studies or a related discipline. Candidates should be able to teach a few different SMAC-related courses and have a Ph.D. in hand by July 1, 2026.
