SLABusiness Meeting Minutes

SportLiterature Association Conference 2024

·       Thank you to Bruce, Matt, Cory,and Joe 

·       Aethlon Journaland Formatting

o   Submissionguidelines

§  MarkBaumgartner (editor)

§  Guidelinescurrently do not allow simultaneous submission

§  Journalsdon’t work that way any longer for creative work

§  Proposingrewritten guidelines that allow folks to send submissions to multiplepublications

§  Acceptanceto Aethlon will require the author to withdraw the submission from anyother publications they may have submitted to 

§  Currentlybehind on publication for the current issue 

·       Some writers would bedisappointed

§  Updatingguidelines to allow simultaneous submissions to other journals

·       If they get accepted elsewhere,they will notify Aethlon immediately

§  Goodincentive for editors to not take too long to decide (input from Michele Schiavone)

·       Most poetry magazines currentlyallow simultaneous submissions as well 

§  Newsubmission guidelines to be typed up again and distributed

§  Reminderto submit all Aethlon material in Word format

o   Inquiryon whether it would be worth it to look into Submittable

§  Costcomes out of pocket if not enough people are submitting

o   Becausethe current issue is behind schedule, there are already authors asking aboutwithdrawing work/marketing elsewhere

·       SLA 2025

o   June18-21 (Wednesday to Saturday) in New York

o   DavidKilpatrick, Mercy College, Host

o   AdamWinkel, Program Chair

o   DobbsFerry on the Hudson

o   Newresidence halls in Dobbs Ferry – that is likely where the conferenceaccommodation will be

§  Stayingon campus should be affordable (and available)

o   Lecturehall already booked for the conference

·       SLA 2026

o   Datesnot decided yet – Iowa City, University of Iowa

o   RoxannaCurto and Rebecca Wines, co-hosts

o   ScottPalmieri-Program Chair

o   Universityhotel and airport nearby 

·       SLA 2027

o   Limoges,France hosted by Thomas Bauer – organizing hasn’t started yet

·       SLA 2028

o   Currentlyaccepting proposals to host

·       Online attendees

o   Paida fee that supported the graduate student research awards

o   Proposingto continue this system if there were no objections

o   Joseph,Aurora, and Mizuki received research awards and presented virtually, Hannah receivedaward for Lyle Olsen Graduate Student Essay Contest in person

·       Universal acknowledgement thatJoe dealing with tech has been a blessing and a half

·       Motion to adjourn by Bruce
