Being a guest on this show in 2022 with The Mighty Oak was a highlight of my year. Rich and Bruce are the best and I really hope a new station makes a home for both Sport Lit 101 and Downtown.

Bruce and Rich,

Very sorry to hear this. Sport Lit 101 was one of the excellent outlets that looked at contemporary writing on sport and brought authors together with readers. It will be missed. Thanks to both of you for the great job you did over the years.

Subject: [ARETE] Downtown with Rich Kimball

Dear SLA Friends
Today we learned the sad news that WZON, WKIT and WZLO owned by Stephen and Tabitha King are shutting down--not being sold--at the end of the month. The Kings have been generous and dedicated stewards of the stations and frequencies but between thieves like Spotify and other streaming services locally owned stations are disappearing as fast as polar ice. The stations have lost millions over the years keeping local content and enhancing community spirit, but the corporation can no longer justify doing so.

Downtown with Rich Kimball has been one of the most important parts of my life for over a decade. No show I am aware of anywhere in this country has had a better and more impressive guest list. The list of guest who have also said Rich is the best interviewer they have ever known includes, Poet Laureates, Grammy, Pulitzer, and Emmy winners, the pantheon of the best writers on sports and entertainment in the country. Musical guest include dozens of Hall of Famers. And we have been blessed to have had so many SLA members on the air with us in person, by SKYPE or the phone. Who else has had Ken Burns on more than a dozen times and often before the national media got to speak to him about a new project?

I wish I could offer some hope about us landing elsewhere, but the chances are not good.

Finally, many thanks to those of you who made the show great success it has been for more than a dozen years..
Bruce
