Dear the members of SLA,

I hope this email finds you well.
I am Mizuki Nakamura, a member of SLA.
I am also a graduate student at Osaka University in Japan.
I am writing to inquire about the possibility of becoming a visiting scholar at a university or an academic institution in the United States.

Our university is offering a grant to graduate students who are planning to visit a foreign country or a university overseas so that they can gain a broader knowledge in their research fields.
They say that the grant is more likely to be given to those who plan to meet some scholars in their fields to discuss their ongoing research or those who are trying to establish a new connection with some scholars overseas.

As the research on sports literature is not as popular in Japan as in the United States, I am thinking of applying for the grant to study more about it in the U.S.
I hope I can have an excellent opportunity to advance my research skills, which will contribute to ongoing research efforts.
The grant will be given to a short-term study (about two weeks or so), so it would be great if I could visit America somewhere between mid-August and mid-September this year.

I would be honored if someone in SLA would consider accepting me as a visiting scholar.
However, I have no idea who to contact about this, and Dr. Duncan has suggested to me that I send this query through the mailing list.
I'd appreciate it if you could provide me with information about scholars or institutions that would accept me as a visiting scholar if you happen to know some.

I am going to submit my doctoral dissertation this year, so it would be great if I could get some advice on my dissertation.
The theme of my dissertation is an analysis of baseball representations in the novels of Paul Auster and Don DeLillo.
The thesis is supposed to be written in English, so I have some drafts to send you if you need them.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Mizuki Nakamura
