Notes from the 39th Annual Conference of the Sport Literature Association
Annual Business Meeting
NOTES
Compiled by Charmayne Mulligan
Friday, June 17, 2022
Session Seven: 12.30pm
Virtual Business Meeting
12.30pm: Association Announcements
1. Conference in 2023 will be in Frederickton New Brunswick Canada with Fred Mason as host and Adrian Markle as program chair; look for CFP in November
Tentative Schedule for the next few years:
2024 – Maine
2025 – New York City
2026 – University of Iowa
• Fred Mason – June 21-24, 2023; will be host in 2023; information about residence halls and hotel accommodations will be shared; Fred shared areas of interest in the area
• Bruce Pratt – tentative; location could be Portland campus location or Bowdoin College; travel to Portland is cheaper, however housing is an issue; housing is easier in Bowdoin, but travel will be costlier
• David Kilpatrick – Mercy College; two campus choices; lots of options for entertainment and sports-related activities nearby
• Kasey Symons – Melbourne, Australia; “bonus conference” in January (or thereabouts); it would be expensive – no student accommodation; is there interest for this? Sports events – roundball football, tennis, cricket
2. Graduate student awards from the McGehee/Slack Fund
$250 each to continue research (publication and presentation)
• Jamie Ryan
• Tommasso Villa
• Siyao Lin
• Michael Franz
+++Please Note: The fund needs to be replenished particularly if we aid travel expense next year. There will be an option to donate when you receive your annual invoice in August.
Susan Bandy: The programs from previous conferences are posted online on the SLA Website
LA84 Foundation offers Aethlon articles for free at digital.la84.org They stay one issue behind. Please note if you are interested in full issues, they are available electronically from joyced1001 at cs.com
