Hi,As an author of dystopian political baseball novels, would a letter attesting to the importance of teaching the rich genre of sports literature be of any value? Please let me know.

Phil Would you kindly post this? Thanks,Bruce
Dear SLA Friends
Our dean has eliminated Sport Lit Courses from the UMaine curriculum even though our chair supports them. She says that as the previous instructors/professors Judy Hakola and Scott Peterson who were full-time, if not tenure tracked members, of the department Are no longer here that only other such faculty can teach those classes. This despite the fact that I invented our Hockey Lit class and Hank Garfield has ably taught the Baseball and General Sport Lit classes. This is also despite the fact that every class not only full enrolled but had substantial waiting lists--so at adjunct rates they were cash cows.
In an attempt to redress this I am asking that any SLA member who is willing to do so, send me a list of the classes he or she has taught and at which institutions. This request goes out to all on the list regardless of country. I will be using that data to bolster our argument. I also hope to enlist the folks in our business school who've added a sports management degree to their curriculum.
You can email me at either bruce.pratt at maine.edu or obdriveway at aol.com
Many, many thanks,Bruce_______________________________________________
