Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is so difficult to imagine SLA without Dennis, as it has been with our other SLA loses.  In addition to seeing Dennis at SLA for many years, he came to Ohio State and gave lectures and a reading at my house, charming all of our students in the Humanities Program when I was teaching there.  A friend of mine from Hungary won a Fulbright to Springfield College and Smith College.  Dennis provided transportation for her and her son between the two institutions and became a most loyal friend to them.  He was so generous and kind throughout their stay in Northampton, as only Dennis could have done.

We shall all miss his charm, wit, and generosity, as so many of you have written.
