I echo the feelings of sadness and celebration of Dick, q.e.p.d. I first learned about SLA after coming across a few of Dick’s translations of soccer fiction from Latin America and connecting with him remotely. I only had the privilege of meeting the legend in person at one SLA but I will be forever grateful for his long-distance collegiality and stellar contribution to the translation team for Idols and Underdogs<https://nam10.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.academia.edu%2F26493992%2FIdols_and_Underdogs_An_Anthology_of_Latin_American_Football_Fiction&data=02%7C01%7Csport_literature_association%40lists.ku.edu%7C49ba993a77eb4e035aba08d7d0433ad2%7C3c176536afe643f5b96636feabbe3c1a%7C0%7C1%7C637206859480533465&sdata=JuKGZiViYkExFugiT0IKNbA4RGlUUc6xWO5ssrg80tI%3D&reserved=0>.

It saddens me to report that our friend and long time SLA member, Dick McGehee, passed away on Saturday. Dick was known for his love of the games of the southern Americas and responsible for translating and presenting many works from those regions. For the past few years, he diligently indexed the journal, putting decades of work into a searchable database. In addition, he was a benefactor for the Association, making it possible for a variety of young graduate student scholars to attend the conference. His generosity, kindness, and subtle humor knew no bounds.
