NOTE: FROM TIME TO TIME, WE ARE ASKED TO POST INFORMATION THAT MAY BE OF INTEREST TO THE MEMBERS. WE DO THIS AS A COURTESY AND NOT AS AN ENDORSEMENT.

We wanted to share with you an exciting new documentary about nonconformist NFL star Marshawn Lynch and the silence that he deploys as a form of resistance and protest. Marshawn Lynch: A History is a kaleidoscopic look into race, media, and sports in America. The film is now available for educational and community screenings. If you're interested in screening the film, please contact Alejandro at Cargo Film & Releasing (veciana.cargo at gmail.com). The film is also available for a Digital Site License on Cargo's educational site which would allow for universities and nonprofits to locally host and stream to their students and community on a closed, password-protected system.

Marshawn Lynch: A History— very loosely inspired by the director David Shields’s book Black Planet: Facing Race During an NBA Season—documents and celebrates Lynch’s attempt to be true to himself in a capitalist, racist society that wants to exploit him and that he wants to both exploit and oppose. Lynch is leaving a legacy of the eloquence of silence, echo, and mimicry as key tools of defiance. Albert Camus says, “The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.” No one is absolutely free, but Marshawn Lynch comes thrillingly close. Produced, written, and directed by David Shields, New York Times bestselling author of more than twenty books, including Black Planet, Nobody Hates Trump More Than Trump, and Reality Hunger. Executive producer: Danny Glover (Sorry to Bother You, Hale County This Morning, This Evening, Lethal Weapon). Consulting producer: John W. Comerford (Icons Among Us: Jazz in the Present Tense).

“Lynch: A History opened my eyes to a way of seeing Marshawn Lynch in a wider context. This film is different and real—just like Marshawn, who is as genuine as they come.”
-Kenny Mayne, co-host, SportsCenter/ESPN“This is a movie that gets Marshawn Lynch’s greatness.”-Danny Glover"Lynch: A History is a new documentary which examines race, masculinity, media, and protests at the turn of the millennium."
