Most of the proposals in my files are for high schools. However, when I became certified in SIM, I was an 8th grade Language Arts/Inclusion teacher in a large school in El Paso, Texas. The first writing initiative was for that school. It was immensely successful. We scored exemplary in all reading and writing areas for the TEKS. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:large"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:large">I believe I could be an effective collaborator in your task. I would prefer to have a phone conversation to assist you with your proposal because it is important to tailor it appropriately for the students and teachers of the school you will be serving. You will probably encounter several challenging questions concerning fidelity of implementation in conjunction with curriculum requirements. I do not know about your background, but if it is Sped, the LA teachers will possibly be skeptical of teaching these strategies to ALL students. </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:large"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:large">If you think my experiences could prove valuable in your endeavor, contact me, and we will set up a time to talk.</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:large"><br></div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:large">Sincerely, </div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:large">Vicki</div><div class="gmail_default" style="font-size:large"><br></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Mon, Jul 25, 2022 at 11:06 AM Christine Bouck via Simtrainer-l <<a href="mailto:simtrainer-l@lists.ku.edu">simtrainer-l@lists.ku.edu</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div dir="ltr">Thanks Jean for sharing this important information. I'm sure most of us are already seeing the negative academic impact, so the more SIM we can get out there the better for all students. <div><br>To that end, I have been asked by a local middle school to submit a proposal where I would provide professional development and continued support in the areas of writing. <p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11pt">Hi all—This is the perfect time of year to be planning professional development for the fall and the coming year with school staffs. If they are looking at test scores, they are seeing that students didn’t
learn much during the pandemic. Attached is one article and a list of other articles that focus on the COVID slide and the decline in academic skills that students are experiencing. My guess is that we are not really seeing the full extent of the slide and
its consequences. Once students pass the fourth-grade year without learning to decode multisyllable words and to use comprehension strategies, they are going to be in a world of hurt. This is a key time for us as leaders to supply energy and instruction for
teachers who will have to face these students in their courses. It is also a key time to start up Xtreme Reading courses for students who are entering middle schools reading two or more years below grade level. Please share these articles with school staff
members in your area, and let us know if we can do anything to help you. Thanks for all you are doing for teachers! You can give them a real boost this fall with new ways to help students. They need your help at this difficult time. Jean<u></u><u></u></span></p>
