I am working with teachers who teach students who are ELL. The creative adaptations that they have suggested to me would be to include lots of visuals (color code, picture that represent the information) and what seems most important is connecting or bridging the new information to the language students are most familiar with. I have seen them use several visual cards that has information in English on one side and the connection to the language on the other side. I have seen visuals and models that are connected to the culture the student is most familiar with so they can focus on learning the process or strategy. Vocabulary can be tricky with sentence writing, so this seems to work well when they are creating sentences. I hope this gives you some ideas.
Best,
Hello,
I am working with a young lady who is brand new to SIM. She has English Language Learners who are in grades K - 8. It has been a while since I’ve focused on materials for this population. If there is anyone who is having success with something specific, please let me know. Does anyone have recommendations for using learning strategies with EL learners? This teacher just learned Fundamentals of Sentence Writing, and she is going to start with that. She is fairly new to teaching, and she is trying to figure it all out.

Thanks for any help or recommendations.
Best,
Sue
