<div style="color:black;font: 12pt Times New Roman, Times, serif;">Sooo glad you are all safe! We dodged 2 tornadoes last week in Missouri, so I would say we are all a lucky group!
<div><br>
</div>
<div>The state team I work with in Missouri was in Jefferson City when the big tornado hit in the middle of the night last week. We were in different hotels in different parts of Jeff City. Lou and I were in the Doubletree on the <span style="font-weight: bold;">12th </span>of 13 floors (yikes!) - across from the Lincoln University buildings that did get hit. The University windows were blown out and parts of roofs were blown off. The debris hit our hotel and a window in our car was smashed. <font size="3">Others were at the Best Western which was hit directly by the EF3 - they barely escaped from their rooms before their rooms exploded. People were in the hallways screaming, crying and bleeding. One person from our group just closed the door to her room seconds before it hit - her </font>belongings<font size="3"> were totally destroyed and her car was totaled by the insurance company. Fortunately another person's room was on the side that was not destroyed, so they stayed in her room for the rest of the night. Most people at that hotel had to move to other hotels. </font><span style="font-size: medium;">You have probably seen reports on the area where that hotel was located. </span></div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Being from Missouri, I ignored the first round of tornado alarms since there was no alert on TV or on my phone. One of the worriers in our group had told us that the hotel would also sound an alarm and make an announcement that we should go to the basement garage. Since we did not hear any additional alarms, we were sleeping when the worrier called us to ask why we were not in the basement with the rest of our group in that hotel. (If you do not know the story about the group of us who continued to stay at Free State Brewery when a tornado hit West Lawrence years ago during the SIM Conference, remind me to tell you that story.) Lou and I grudgingly went to the basement. We were so lucky. </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>My favorite Kansas/Missouri tornado story is a about friend who called his dad after a tornado hit his home town in Belleville, Kansas. When he asked his dad if he knew about the tornado, his dad replied, "Yes, son, we watched it go by as we were drinking coffee at Smith's Cafe." </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div> Like Mona, Lou and I would have sat on the porch and watched it go by!! And regretted that we do not have better photos!! </div>
<div><br>
</div>
<div>Take care (seriously),</div>
