<div class="">I’ve had this discussion multiple times with teachers. I’ve had many teachers of ELLs say that they let the kids use their native language for reminding words. (This is more challenging for a teacher who doesn’t know the foreign language!) However,
for a teacher who knows (say, Spanish), and the majority of the students are Spanish, AND if the reminding word fits the three criteria (real word, known meaning, and sounds like new vocabulary word) then they say that can really help those students with remembering.

<div class="">I recently instructed co-teachers in KS in a couple of routines. A middle school social studies teacher asked if others have used LINCing with ELLs and wondered if the device needed to be modified in any way. She wondered, for instance, if the
reminding word might cause an issue. We kicked around some ideas, and I told her I would check in with the network and get back to her.</div>
