Hello SIM Colleagues,
Today, two interesting articles hit our desks. In the first, Robert Slavin posted an article entitled, John Hattie is Wrong. In the second, John Hattie responded to Slavin’s remarks with an article entitled, Clearing the Lens, Addressing the Criticisms of the Visible Learning Research.

We placed the two following posts on our Facebook page. If you have time, both articles are interesting reads and worth considerable discussion. Frankly, discussion among educators about implementing evidence-based practices is music to our ears.

Enjoy the reads!

Post 1. June 25, 2018: This is the first of two posts that I will share here. In this post, John Hattie, who was one of our keynote speakers last summer, is criticized for his methodology. BUT PLEASE READ THE NEXT POST AS WELL, which is his reply to the statements made here. Frankly, we appreciate both research groups addressed in these posts and relish the healthy conversation that these stir up. Discussion that focuses on which evidence-based practices to implement is a welcome conversation.

Post 2. June 25, 2018 This is the second of two posts that I will share here. In this post, John Hattie, who was one of our keynote speakers last summer, discusses his approach. PLEASE READ THE FIRST POST AS WELL, which are the statements made by Robert Slavin in criticism of Hattie's methodology. Frankly, we appreciate both research groups addressed in these posts and relish the healthy conversation that these stir up. Discussion that focuses on which evidence-based practices to implement is a welcome conversation.
