Salvador, Bahia is the locale for <em>Race, History, & Health in Brazil</em>. Instruction will be in English with opportunity to speak Portuguese. Brazil is known for leading the way in healthcare access, including life-saving HIV treatments. However its legacy
of slavery, colonialism, and segregation, paired with stark socio-economic inequality, has disproportionately affected the health of Afro-Brazilian communities. Healthcare is further complicated by a sophisticated system of traditional medicine.<br>

The city of Salvador is a critical location for the study of race, history, and health. Students will enjoy concerts, music classes, dance classes, and activities (capoeira, samba) hosted by various Afro-Brazilian groups. Readings and discussions will cover
