I would like to request your help informing students about the internship program informational meeting that I am holding later this month, especially those of you who teach larger classes or classes where there are fewer declared majors. I sent the email below
to the declared majors list yesterday, but I would appreciate if you could also share it with your classes. </div>

Just FYI, I get the impression from students that some think the internship program is geared toward American politics students and/or those who want to intern with lawmakers, but that is absolutely not the case. I am willing to consider credit for any internship
that is political or policy-oriented in any sense in any arena. </div>

Also, from talking with our students I get the sense that some are going outside of the department for KU Core Goal 6 credits. Our internship courses fulfill Goal 6 , so hopefully we can encourage bringing more of those credit hours into the department.</div>

As the director of the Political Science Department Internship Program, I will like to make you aware of an upcoming informational meeting that I am hosting for any students who are interested in spring 2022 internships. The meeting will be on Thursday, September
23 from 5-6:30 P.M. in the Kansas Ballroom in the Union. </p>

The Washington Intern Program has operated since 1984, and over 600 students have participated. The program is traditionally an intensive, semester-long residential program in D.C. And through our Topeka program, many students have earned credit for non-D.C.
internships (and not just in Topeka!) with elected officials like the governor or state legislators, lobbyists, interest groups, government offices, and social movement organizations. </p>

There are plenty of internships out there that deal with things like policy, communications, international affairs, or social movement work, so this program is not just for students whose primary interest is in American politics or working for an elected official
or campaign. If your internship deals with most any aspect of politics or policy, foreign or domestic, we can consider it for credit.</p>
