Blackboard announced that self-hosted delivery, which KU uses, will become unavailable October 2024. This means that KU will need to move to a cloud LMS well in advance of Blackboard discontinuing self-hosted delivery by 2024.</p>

The Academic Systems Steering Committee (ASSC), which includes faculty and staff representation from the College, reviewed KU’s options including cost and comparison information, and has unanimously recommended that we choose Canvas as our next LMS. Given Canvas
is the industry standard and used most frequently by high schools and community colleges, it is a familiar space for KU students. Canvas is already being used at KU (Education and Business) and KU IT feels confident it can enable an early adopter phase right
away. </p>

This is a big undertaking and probably feels poorly timed. Fortunately, we will have an adequate transition timeline to move courses from Blackboard to Canvas. We feel confident in the support that will be provided by powerhouse teams comprised of instructional
designers from the Center for Online and Distance Learning, the educational technologists in KU IT, and the migration support services provided by Canvas. The College Online will be working with these partners to ensure the College’s transition to Canvas will
be coordinated and timely. </p>

The Deans have been asked to provide suggestions for early adopters who might like to move their online class(es) to Canvas for teaching this spring, summer, or fall, prior to a larger transition roll out. We have reached out individually to a few departments
