<p>Colleagues, I hope you are well and that your courses are winding down as smooth as possible.<br>

<p>The Dean held a Chairs and Directors meeting yesterday. Based on his perceptions of things I have some tentative takeaways that I wanted share with you.<br>
</p>

</p>
<p>1. Planning and changes are being made to potentially allow some in-person teaching in the fall. This includes schedule changes and changes to classrooms. How far this will go is unclear.<br>
</p>
<p>2. We know that at least some students will not be able to return to campus but will still want to take courses. With that in mind you will likely to at minimum have an online section for each of your courses for the fall and possibly for the foreseeable
future.<br>
</p>
<p>3. With top administrators taking a pay reduction of 10% through a furlough the Dean seems to think it's likely that some percentage of the faculty will also face something like a 10% furlough. Hopefully this would only impact faculty making above some
unspecified amount of salary. If you can you should makes plans to adjust your budget before fall. There is hope among some that another route could be taken which would be for KU to temporarily suspend retirement fund contributions, but it's not clear this
is possible with our existing contracts. <br>

<p>4. Announcements will come soon about alternative graduation events.<br>

<p>Of course these are based on perceptions and it all may pan out differently. It might be best to plan ahead rather than to wait and see. I'll update you if I receive additional information.<br>
